Mother's Day. Lots of 'I am blessed' posts on FaceBook and Insta. Lots of mums posting about all the goodies (crap) they got. 'I love my mum' posts. Profile pics now saying Happy Mother's Day with the obligatory mum and kid pics.
Personally, I woke up at 11, text my Mum 'Happy Mothers Day', ate bran flakes In bed and have not received one 'Happy Mother's Day' yet. Do I care? No. Am I just being brave and masking the hurt and despair I am currently feeling. Yeh that'll be a no too. My kids basically act they way they have been taught. I have never placed an importance on Mother's Day so they don't either. It's not sad. My daughter will wish me a Happy Mother's day when she finally gets up. My son will when he gets back from his Dads. Then we might go our for dinner. Might not. No big deal.
I find it amusing to read the self obsessed 'poor me' posts on Mumsnet (that's what I have been doing all morning). People crying because they didn't get a cup of tea in bed! Crying because they feel unappreciated. It's a manufactured day people, get a grip. There are far bigger issues going on in the world than you having to make your own cup of tea. If it bothers you that much do something about it instead of whining. You say your husband is useless as he didn't buy you something from the kids - tell him, divorce him! But no, do what you really want to do - wallow in self pity!
So, as you can see I'm not a fan of Mother's Day. I feel the same about Father's Day and most days which are now just heavily commercialised - Easter, even Christmas and don't even start me on Valentine's Day. Halloween however that's different. That is a true cause for celebration!
